Obituary of Joan Charlene Edsall

Joan C. Edsall, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA after a 16 year struggle with Alzheimer's disease, at the age of 76 years. Joan was born November 27, 1938 at Mercy Hospital in Bay City, MI to the late Lloyd V. and Phyllis L. (Bradley) Hebert, she has resided in this area all of her life. Joan graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1957. She was an LPN and worked at Mercy Hospital, General Hospital and Bay Medical Center, totaling more than 40 years. She also worked at Tri-City Nursing Home and Brian's House. Joan loved gardening and was in the Bay City Times in October of 1984 for her rock garden, resplendent with waterfalls. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, needle point and she was famous for her homemade pies, cookies and cakes. She was an accomplished quilter. She was a master of household projects, including building bookshelves, painting, and wallpapering, plumbing and electrical works. Joan is survived by her four children: Amanda S. (Richard) Bernard of Anchorage, AK and Essexville, MI, John F. (Melinda) Long of Midland, MI, Sheryl A. (Michael) Olson of Vancouver, WA, and Robert W. Edsall of Bay City, MI. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, sixteen great granchildren and a brother, Kenneth V. (Marilyn) Hebert of Decatur, AL and a sister, Jane F. Castillo of Midland, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald W. and Julienne Hebert, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Michael VanHurk.
