Thomas M. Perkins
March 27, 1929 - September 26, 2017
Thomas Millard Perkins, CDR ret. USN, died September 26, 2017 of natural causes.
CDR Perkins was born in Oxford, Maine March 27 1929, to Merle and Olive Perkins. He graduated from Oxford High School and immediately followed his older brothers in joining the US Navy in July 1946.
While serving in the Navy in both Europe and Pacific, he spent 13 years as an enlisted serviceman. Tom was promoted to Warrant Officer, then received his commission and achieved the rank of Commander, before retiring in 1975.
He was married to the former Jeanette Martin of Harrison, Maine in 1951. She preceded him in death in 2007 after 56 years of marriage.
After retirement, they settled in Port Orchard, Washington, where Tom attended clock and watch repair school. He collected and repaired clocks and watches, enjoyed golf, and was a voracious reader of history.
Until recently, he regularly traveled back to Maine to visit his hometown. Tom is survived by two sisters, Ina Brown and Sarah Perkins of Oxford, Maine; two daughters, Rebecca O’Donnell (Phillip) of Vancouver Washington, Marjory Bryce (Philip) of Deering, NH; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian O’Donnell. Additionally he is survived by a large extended family.
