Calina Mary Washburn -Neathery                                                 March 25, 1952 - December 26, 2016                                                  She was 64 years young Calina will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and horse community Calina spent her final 2 months at the Community Hospice Care Center in Vancouver, Wa.  She passed away peacefully at 11:30 AM on Monday, December 26, 2016 from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, COPD.  Prior to the hospice center Calina lived in La Center, Washington. Calina was born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, to Homer and Lauretta (Dutro) Washburn, March 25, 1952, the 4th of 9 children.  She was preceded in death by her 2 young children tragically, father, brother Chuck, her 2 best friends (horses Jewell & Destiny), and her mother.  She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband Loren "Bear" Neathery of 30 years, 1 son Scott Washburn, Sisters Cathy, Jeanie, & Ramona (Mona), Brother Fred, Sister Cheri, Brothers Guy (Homer Jr.) and John.  She has 3 beautiful grandchildren Eric, Janey, and Elisabeth Washburn, along with many, many,  nieces and nephews. Calina had been an avid animal lover since the age of 4, which grew into an extreme love for horses.  Calina joined the "Clark County Fair Mounted Patrol" group 21 years ago.  While with this horse group Calina expanded the groups involvement in the community by having them join most all local parades throughout SW Washington and the Portland  "Rose Festival Parade", which the group won awards for. This was her passion and lives work, the Fair and Horses. For every new person to join this group she deemed "Rookie" till she got to know you and your horse, which took awhile.  Every year Calina would "Ride In" the New Year by riding her best horse at midnight, no matter what. Calina's other passion was for her family, friends, and anyone who needed a friend, a place to sleep, someone to talk to, someone to listen to, a place to call home for a bit, just anyone and everyone in need.  There are countless people in this crazy world who know of and about Calina Washburn-Neathery.  If it wasn't for her and her husband always taking in someone or some type of animal (horses), who knows where these people might or might not be today.  Calina had a positive outlook on life, family, people, and animals. Her compassionate, generous heart, and big beautiful smile just made everyone who came in contact with her, love her that much more.  From her family and friends she was known as the "Crazy Auntie" along with "Firecracker" because she was just a spitfire of a great lady.  Calina had a lot of strength and determination to make things in her life and other people's lives right again.  Calina had many jobs over her life from waitress, to head chef, and manager of several businesses.  The most rewarding to her was helping everyone by giving horse lessons, providing horse training, showing how to cook, she was an awesome seamstress, rode many trail rides, volunteer 4-H and Christmas Rodeo.  Her favorite color was pink. There will be no funeral.  A Cremation has been set for Friday, December 30, 2016. At the request of her husband, viewing will not be an option.  There will be a Celebration Of Life at a later date, to be determined.  The facility in charge of this is Cascadia Cremation & Burial Services.
