Eileen Mary Brandhuber Watkins Hoeft went to see our Lord on December 10th 2016.
Eileen was born on May 2, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Lucy Brandhuber. She graduated from Scott High School 1943 and Saint Vincent’s school of Nursing, also inToledo. She went on to get her degree in nursing education at Saint Louis University. There she met the love of her life on a blind date, a medical student Charles W. “Bill” Watkins. They were married on December 27, 1950. They lived in Spokane, WA, Red lodge MT, Rochester MN and finally settled in Vancouver Washington in 1958.
Eileen was a nurse educator at Clark College and Vancouver Memorial hospital/Southwest Medical Center(now Peace health)and taught prenatal care to expectant parents for over 40 years. She started off teaching her peers, then her kids and grandkids peers. She retired from teaching at the age of 82. She was active in the women’s auxiliary at Vancouver memorial hospital, prolife activities and the Catholic Church. She was an avid card player and involved in several bridge clubs.
Her husband, Dr. Watkins proceeded her in death in 1980. 2 years later she met a very nice man, Elmer Hoeft. They were Married in 1982 until he passed in 1996. She was also proceeded in death by her sister Ruth, brother Charles and daughter Susan. She is survived by 5 of her children Mary, Bill(Grace), John(Lyssa), Andy(Donna) Jane(Steve), 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Emily and all the caregivers at Eden place for their love and care for our mom over the last six years and especially for their care at the end of her life.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver. Date to be determined
Burial at Willamette National Cemetery Portland.
