Antonio Aguon Sanchez ~ 80
Vancouver, Washington
April 23, 1936 ~ June 20, 2016
Antonio Aguon Sanchez, born 4/22/1936 and passed away 6/20/2016. Tony was a very loving and proud man. He was very family orientated. He was very kind, and had a calm spirit. When he was born, he was premature and no-one had suspected he'd make it. Born very very small and weak, his Tata Joaquina, a midwife, took him in. She nursed him back to health. And he adored her. He also was raised with his Aunty La. He was an excellent fisherman. He knew how to spear fish and swim with the best of them. He grew up an alter boy. And worked hard on his Tata's farm. Tony was known for his story telling. So many of you knew them well.
Growing up he remembers very vividly the Japanese coming onto Guam. This influenced his joining the military. He served 20 years and was honorably discharged. By this time he met his wife Joyce. They fell in love quickly and were married. They celebrated their 51st Anniversary in 2015. And still, very much in love.
Tony comes from a big family in Umatac, Guam. He was the youngest of 11 siblings. Many nieces and nephews. Aunties and Uncles. He and Joyce had a daughter, Sharon Cox and a son, Gene Tompkins. A granddaughter Jessica Cox. And a great granddaughter Alanah, and great grandson Gino. And a wonderful adopted family, Ray, Corinne, Ayron, and Juston. And the kids Ariah and Alahna. Also, Ashley, Anna, and Leah became a big part of their lives.
Tony was a great mechanic. He was known to help out family and friends with their cars. Subjecting his wife and granddaughter to side labor as well. He was a great teacher. Allot of nieces and nephews also benefit from his teachings. Later he did other types of jobs, but being a mechanic was his love.
Tony enjoyed good company of family and friends. Going bowling, and winning at the casinos. He really loved being around family, especially at fiestas. He was the first one at the house, and usually was the person who did the barbecuing. He loved it.
He was a proud Guamanian from Umatac. The Sanchez family were very well known for their attributes on the island. Having owned much of the land, stores and a school. The family is still populating a large portion of the land.
He passed away at home with his wife and and dear friend Corinne. He passed peacefully, and surrounded by love.
He will be missed very much and will always be loved.
