I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I did not know that he had Alzheimer's and I'm sorry to hear that his last years were made difficult by that cruel disease. When he was in Washington as a Capitol Page, Dave introduced me to some of the great blues music that he loved so much, and on a visit during the early 1980s, he took me to a raucous country-blue bar in what was then a rough neighborhood in Anacostia. The last time I saw him we listened to a couple of old records that he had found, prowling the second-hand stores on Hawthorne Blvd. My condolences to Pattie, Fred, and the younger generation.

Our hearts go out to Pattie, Fred and family at Dave's passing. As a cousin, and a musician, I have great memories of playing music together along with Fred, particularly at Uncle Dave's cabin in Minnesota about 1993 at the Miller reunion. He had a great life and he'll be missed by many. Sending love and condolences. Lloyd Miller SLC UT

What sad new but what a truly remarkable life Dave lived. I knew Dave from the spaniel world of field trailing. He was a true competitor and focused when in the field with his dogs but was also always fun and entertaining when the group would get together to socialize and talk about our day in the field. He was generous with his knowledge and he is credited for breeding some very top dogs who lineage continue today.
A life well lived is a beautiful thing.

I'm very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was a great guy, very good to me when I was a young lawyer. Took me fishing, played music with me and talked me into buying an old Gibson I still have. Definitely one of the cooler lawyers I ever encountered.
Sincere condolences to Pattie, Dave Jr. and Jenny.

I met Dave in the 1980's and we quickly became friends. We hunted pheasants and trained dogs together on many occasions. He was a teacher, mentor, and an inspiration to me; I will miss him tremendously.

My heartfelt sympathy to everyone. It was my privilege to have been Dave's assistant for so many years. He was a brilliant attorney and taught me much. It was always fun to listen to him play his guitar and sing in between tasks. Best wishes to all.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Stoel for more than twenty years.
In addition to being an excellent attorney, Dave brought humor, light and music to our offices over all that time.
I have particularly fond memories of weekly gatherings late Friday afternoons after work had been finished, listening to guitar music, joking and musing about the week just ended.
He was missed in his illness and is missed still.

I knew Dave from Spaniel field trials for over 40 years. He was a good friend, a good sport, and a true gentleman. He had a quick smile, a quick wit, and sang and played guitar many an evening after a day's trial. He was funny, exuberant, passionate, and loyal. He was a bit devilish which I particularly enjoyed. I will truly miss this dear friend and great man! It's hard to believe that I will never see him again. I am better for having known him. R.I.P.
