Dear Leslie, dear Damron family,
That Richard was taken home and away from us so suddenly is something we are still not able to grasp. His and your love have always been a blessing for us others.
Leslie, when I stayed in Amarillo, you and Richard treated me as part of your family, began to become family to me, would later become part of my family in Isny, Leutkirch, Tübingen and Heidelberg, where we all love you and think of you on family gatherings. In Amarillo, your place and the two of you represented cordiality, warmth, love and empathy. It was wonderful to talk to Richard then, in 1984/85 and again and again ever since. Richard was such a good listener. There was understanding; talking was meaningful, a mode of encountering, of friendship. Also, when we were more people, Richard added so much humor, empathy, wit, enlightenment, strong, but noiseless presence and love to any gathering he attended.
I loved the private movie theater and the whole celebration around it – the good food, the wine, making sure all of us would be ready before it would begin: Nothing should disturb us, once we would dive into it as a common activity and event; something we did, concentrated on, celebrated and loved together.
Time was overly ripe for our next meeting, we were preparing for traveling together to Tübingen, the Allgäu region, then Italy - when Richard was torn away from us. I am so sorry that he and you had to suffer so much during his last days; much more that he already had to leave. He will be with us, when we will meet soon. Until then our thoughts are with you.
Rainer, with Corina

"We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.."

It is wonderful to hear your dear voice in this loving tribute, Leslie.
I guess I'll have to ask Richard about those biscuits in heaven. We always learn something intriguing in an obituary. I'm glad Richard found his soulmate but wish you'd had more and more years. And that is some celebrating bowtie. What a guy!
Love, Meredith

This is once again a sad day in the Wrangler family. Richard and Leslie were another example of the wonderful people that embraced a bunch of young men that came to Amarillo to play hockey. We came a long way from all over Canada and when we left Amarillo we all felt as if it was a second home because of people like Richard and Leslie.
It was a pleasure knowing Richard and God bless him and keep him. Our prayers are with Leslie and the Family.
I don't believe time heals but do know that all the happy memories with his family and friends makes us all feel a little better each day.
Good-bye Richard and God Bless You,
Pat and Donna Severyn

A sad time, indeed!...my sincere condolences to Leslie and the entire Damron family...Richard will be remembered by a bunch of skating vagabonds, who invaded Amarillo in the mid-70s...Richard and his beautiful bride, Leslie, supported the mostly foreign hockey Wranglers and we'll be forever grateful.
I had the great fortune to be allowed to stay at the Damron home for a year and a half...I like to think I started Richard and Leslie on their life-long path to assist young people coming into Amarillo, who were seeking an education and a west Texas experience.
Despite my sometimes youthful misguided search for a good time, Richard and Leslie overlooked my indiscretions and took me in like I was one of their very own family members!!
I'll be eternally indebted to the Damron's for all they did for me during my days in Amarillo -- I believe I became a better player, a more focused student and a better person as a result of their kindness.
God Bless, Joe Richard Damron -- GO LONGHORNS!!
Love to Leslie, Linda and Dean.
