Obituary of Michael Lee Corrigan

Michael Lee Corrigan May 2, 1949 ~ April 1, 2016 Michael Lee Corrigan, 66, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2016 at his home in Battle Ground, Washington, surrounded by his family. Mike was born May 2, 1949 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, to Robert and Donna Corrigan. At an early age he moved with his family to Brookings, Oregon, where he spent his childhood years camping, hunting, fishing, playing baseball and climbing the hills around the Brookings -Harbor area. As a kid, he loved spending time with his maternal grandparents, Mary (Momo) and Gordon (Bobo) Schaeffer and paternal grandparents Hughey and Pansy Corrigan. Mike joined the Army in 1966 and serviced in Vietnam as a Crew Chief/Gunner on a Huey Helicopter. He was a very proud and patriotic American Veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Army he worked as a logger in Washington, Oregon and California. After logging, he worked for the Del Norte County Mental Health Department as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor and then as Director of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Residential House. He also worked in the construction industry for many years until he retired. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Nancy Hegge on December 27, 1967 in Crescent City, California. They were married just over 48 years. Mike and Nancy had one child, a daughter, Shyla Noelle Corrigan. His favorite times were hunting, camping, riding dirt bikes with his son-in-law and friends, and spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandson and twin great grandsons. Mike is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Shyla and son-in-law Steve Strain, his grandson Ryan Strain and two great grandsons, twin boys, Attius and Kail. He is also survived by his sister, Julie Corzine, his brother, Terry Corrigan and several nephews and nieces. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Donna Corrigan and his brother Timothy Corrigan. Local services will be announced at a later date. Services in his hometown of Brookings, Oregon, where his ashes will be laid to rest, will be held later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in his name to the local Community Home Health and Hospice and/or VFW, DAV and Wounded Warrior programs
