Obituary of Robert Stanley Hammer

Robert Stanley Hammer ~ 93 Vancouver, Washington April 8, 1922 ~ March 3, 2016 Robert Stanley Hammer was born April 8, 1922 to Cecil Hammer and Lucille Broadhead Hammer in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. From April 1943 to February 1946, during World War II, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and became a Radioman Third Class. He was proud to be selected to serve as an armed guard aboard the SS Francisco M. Quinones, the SS Battle Mountain, and the SS Cedar Breaks. Robert was an excellent provider for his family. He was a Real Estate Broker and a small business owner. He loved adventure and took the family to live in the wilds of Alaska for two years. He is survived by his devoted and adoring wife, Vivienne Hammer; his daughters Debbie Hammer and Becky Ruzicka; their spouses Andrew Penta and Rick Ruzicka; his grandchildren Aubrey Hale (Kelly), Alyssa Hoppe (Mario) and Ryland Penta; his great grandchildren Ethan Hale, Natalie Hale and Damon Hoppe; and many extended family members who he thought the world of. Our family would like to share these thoughts about our husband, father, and grandfather: "We can't say enough about this man but words fall short. We were fortunate to have him in our lives as long as we did. The list of what we learned from him is endless. How to change a tire. How to think outside of the box to solve problems. How to treat people. How to take care of family and those you love. How to play chess. How to treat animals. How to ride a bike and how to drive a car. When and how to stand your ground. Most of all, the importance of warmth, humor and youthful energy. We'll miss you and we'll do our best to carry on all that you've taught us."
