Obituary of Margaret Lou Calhoun

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Calhoun, age 88, of Vancouver, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024 in the care of her family and loved ones. Margaret was born Margaret Lou Cusic in Kansas City, Missouri on July 3, 1935, and moved to Vancouver, Washington with her parents and sisters when she was a little girl. She grew up in Vancouver, and remained in the Portland/Vancouver area after starting her family and never left. Using her caring nature, Margaret worked a combined 20 years at the Washington State School for the Blind, and The Washington State School for the Deaf as a dormitory house parent for students of all ages. Margaret enjoyed the company of her family, telling stories of her life and the history she lived through, and the music of Elvis Presley. She was a lover of playing board games, and card games, gardening, teaching her grandchildren sign language, and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. Margaret was predeceased by her son Jeffrey. She is survived by her daughter Karen, son Joe, son Michael, sisters Virginia, Charlotte, and Mary, seven grandchildren: Christi, Courtney, Ashley, Brittany, Julianne, Crystal, and Austin, and four great-grandchildren: Marissa, Braxton, Layne, and Olivia. Her family has requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Margaret’s friends, loved ones, and anyone whose lives she may have touched throughout the years to join us in celebrating her beautiful life at the Vancouver Elks Lodge at 11605 SE McGillivray Blvd., Vancouver WA on Saturday, March 23 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
