I met Tom perhaps ten years ago at a local coffee shop. A friendship quickly was established. He attended my wedding about eight years ago, and he convalesced at my home after knee replacement surgery. My wife and I enjoyed his company despite what must have been a painful recovery. Fact of the matter is that I wished he could have stayed longer.
Maybe the most notable characteristic of Tom was his boisterous laugh. You could follow the laughter to the man. The halls of a hospital hallway were not immune to Tom's laughter.
He was a giving person. I recall him giving flowers to his chemo medical staff. Another time he delivered lunch to the same people. I looked forward to the funny stories he would tell about his interactions with the nurses. Quite a funny guy.
I think Tom thought he was at the peak of his humor, when he tried to stir the pot between my wife and I. We always tried to match wits. He knew no boundaries when it came to humor. We loved him and his humor.
I was impressed with his work ethic and knowledge pertaining to home maintenance and repair. He gave me guidance on more than one occasion. Even with his medical issues he continued to help others with their home projects.
I could easily go on reciting his many virtues, but I should summarize: Tom was a kind, caring, thoughtful man. It was my honor to be with him during his last days. I loved him, and he told me he loved me. I was blessed to be his friend. I am saddened by the fact we had not met earlier in life.

Tom loved me unconditionally for over 15 years. We survived all of the ups and downs a relationship can experience. He loved me even though I could be a jerk. I loved him through his ups and downs, though those downs were very few.
He was intelligent. There was no project or situation he could not figure out or work his way through.
His grandchildren, daughter, my family, friends, Hawaiian Shave Ice, Satin his boxer, his Chevy, El Camino, and golf were all his passion.
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran.
He was so proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren and mine.
He loved to drag race his 1969 Chevy Malibu.
He had a hard time missing coffee every morning at Brewed Awakening with his friends.
Tom really never met a person who was a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went. They all were drawn to his laugh, his friendliness and honesty.
I will miss him laughing.
Thank you for telling me that I was the love of your life. You, Tom, were the love of my life.
