Obituary of Gary Stephen Lollock
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Stephen Lollock was born on April 29, 1963 in Pasadena, CA to Robert and Betty (Reeb) Lollock. He was raised in Covina, CA where he graduated from Covina High School and served as senior class president and swam for the school’s team. After attending Mt. San Antonio College, Gary became a travel agent and worked in the industry for over 40 years.
With Covina as his home base, Gary saw the world with friends and family, visiting Europe, Israel, China, Hawaii, and North America. Gary especially loved being at sea, and took numerous cruises, experiencing many ports of call. Whether lying on a beach, exploring Haiti, touring beneath the streets of Seattle, being airlifted after a skiing accident, or waiting in line to see a show in New York, Gary loved hopping from one destination to another.
After years of waiting, the United States Supreme Court ruled in 2013 that Gary and Patrick could marry legally, and Gary proposed the very next week after the high court’s decision while on a ski lift at Mt. Baldy. The two were married at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada, CA, on the morning of February 11, 2014, nine years after the day they met.
The couple lived in Covina for the next year-and-a-half before relocating to the Pacific Northwest where they purchased Elderberry End, a seven-acre wood in northern Clark County, Washington. It was at Elderberry End where Gary soon learned the joys of eagles, hawks, and owls soaring overhead, wolves and deer traipsing through the yard at various times, chopping wood for the stove in winter, watching the snowfall, enjoying the rain, and living life beyond the confines of a city lot.
Gary is survived by his husband Patrick; a sister Nancy Cochran of Dyer, Indiana; a brother Darrel Lollock (Marianne) of Philips Ranch, CA; two nephews Brad Lollock (Caitlin) and Ryan Lollock (Jenna); grand-nephew London, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends who considered him their best friend. He loved them back as much as they loved him. His favorite quote was the Wizard of Oz to the Tin Man: “A heart is not judged by how much it loves, but by how much it is loved by others.”
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Memorial gifts can be made to Heifer International at heifer.org.
