Beatriz Marino Javier Vancouver, Washington July 30, 1923 ~ March 23, 2021 Beatriz Mariño Javier was born July 30, 1923 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Her parents were Trinidad Ceriales and Maxima Diaz Mariño of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. She attended West Elementary School, Negros Oriental High School, Silliman University and Far Eastern University where she obtained a degree in Education. She completed post-graduate studies at Foundation University. When the Japanese government was established during WWII she was hired as a teacher. During the war the family evacuated to the mountains multiple times to escape area conflicts. As the eldest daughter Beatriz took care of her five younger siblings. On March 18, 1944, Beatriz married Miguel Capili Javier from Biñan, Laguna. To this union three children, Manuel Luis, Lorenzo, and Ruby Catalina were born. Beatriz taught at Pinucauan Elementary School in Vallehermoso and at Bacong Elementary School until her retirement. Her passion for teaching was exceptional, her faith and serene manner an inspiration. Beatriz enjoyed sewing clothes, especially for children. She volunteered at the local hospital, making thousands of heart pillows for chaplains’ calling cards and bean bags for stroke patients. Interestingly, she was a descendant of Doña Marcela Mariño Agoncillo, the principal seamstress of the first Philippine Flag. The two bear a striking resemblance.
