Obituary of Margaret Woolford
Margaret “Marge” Woolford
March 12, 1931 – November 30, 2020
Margaret was born on March 12, 1931 to Lee and Beryl Atkinson in Victoria BC, Canada. She was raised along with her two sisters Sara Lee, and Mary Jane in a mining camp on Chichagof Island in Southeastern Alaska. Her family re-located to Juneau, Alaska where Marge graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School. She married Loyal Walley in 1951 and soon she gave birth to her only child Donald. In 1954 she and Loyal were divorced. In 1962 she married Ray Woolford and they moved to their home on North Douglas Island.
Marge worked for several years as a bookkeeper and an accountant for the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. She, her husband Ray, and son Donald left Alaska and moved to the “lower 48” in 1965. After working for the federal government, they become pastoral missionaries with Northwest Independent Church Extension and served in Carson Washington.
After the death of her husband Ray, she worked at the Cannon Beach Conference Center and later at Multnomah School of the Bible in their accounting offices. As she retired, she turned to her three favorite pastimes being a grandma to her grandchildren David, Kelly, and Tim, leading the ladies’ bible study at Evergreen Bible Church, and tending her garden. We fondly remember her whistling or softly singing her favorite hymns and making sumptuous feasts for the family with hardly any effort at all.
Marge is preceded in death by her husband Ray and her sisters Sara Lee and Mary Jane. She is survived by her son Donald Walley and daughter-in-law Kathy Walley of Vancouver WA; her grandchildren David Walley of Seattle, WA; Kelly Urban of Spokane WA; and Tim Walley of Vancouver WA.
If you wish to submit donations in her memory, she was a supporter of the World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse organizations.
