Keenie (Joaquin) Joseph Gutierrez, son of Abe and Irma (nee Clarke) Gutierrez, was born in Aurora, Illinois and was the 10th of 12 children. Preceded in death by his parents, three infant brothers, a sister, Mrs. Cindy (nee Gutierrez) Burton and son, Robbie Gutierrez. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, a longtime family friend and “brother from another mother” Rufus B. Smith Jr. (CPO, USN, RET.) of North Cordova, TN. He will be greatly missed by the most significant woman in his life, Sandra Stringer (RN, RET.) of Portland, OR. Keenie enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 proudly serving his country as a Corpsman during the Vietnam Conflict receiving an Honorable Discharge upon separation from service. Upon returning to home to Aurora, he joined the VFW Waidley Post 468 as had his father before him, a WWII Army Veteran. In his working years he became a Los Angeles County Sheriff for a short time but spent the majority of his working life in the building trades and was the successful owner of Around To It Repairs based in Vancouver, WA. Keenie loved hunting and was proficient and knowledgeable with firearms. He proudly possessed a concealed carry permit and FOID card. He was a long time member of ‘Dads’ Army’ an on-line warriors game, making lasting friends in many of its members. His was a surprise diagnosis of end stage cancer which ran its course in a mere 4 weeks.
