Mourning the passing of Dr. "Buck" Buchan. Buck, a school psychologist in OR and WA, first encouraged me to expand my knowledge and skills beyond the traditional school counselor role. He guided me toward clinical membership in AAMFT, obtained school district permission for us to co-counsel entire families (including pets) during school time when traditional school psych evals were not sufficient, co-authored publications and co-presented at conferences prior to my doctoral pursuits, and taught me the value of laughter to relieve stress. He and his wife shared their secrets of raising kids successfully as our babies were first being born...and walked us through the process of buying our first home when interest rates were 17 1/2%. He encouraged us to travel widely to expand our cultural horizons, citing his time in Libya and in Mormon communities. And in his later years he reveled in being close to his 3 sons, their partners and the grandchildren. Here's to Buck, a one of a kind, a loyal friend, to 86 years of a life well lived.
