I will keep the memories, the memories that make me smile. But letting you go honestly, I'm having a hard time. I promise I'll be strong for you like you said, and hold it to the road but I'll be down and missing you, missing you so. Have a great flight papa.
I love you, Gopher

I'll see you on the other side papa.
You were my superhero, my friend, my pool buddy, my partner in crime, but most of all you were the only dad I ever had. The life lessons you gave us all will never be forgotten. You were the strongest person I will ever know. You lived your life honestly with no complaints, no regrets and on your terms, a life one can only hope to mimic. You will never know how much you ment to me or the hole you left in my heart. I am forever grateful to have had you in my life.
I love you forever,
Toddles

Met Joe (aka Scrappy) in the early 80's. And as with many, changed my life, got me into a union truck driving across the state of Wyoming. Couldn't thank him enough. Was with him when he married Dee in good old Las Vegas. Spent quite a few hours with him after that, shooting pool in pool leagues and running up and down the road. Even so happened to become my father in law for awhile. He was a friend, Grampa to my kids and a Father to Shelly. And I know that all of them became a better person with him in their lives. including me! Although we all mourn the loss of this very special person, he would rather give us a chuckle and want us to go forward. So Scrappy, even though I know you quit drinking a long time ago, I will sit tonight and have a grog with you in my thoughts and say a prayer for all that still remain and will miss you. Rest in peace my friend! Respectfully, As always!

Joe and I developed our relationship at the poker table. Initially, I wasn’t too sure about any level of affection for the man - he frustrated me mightily with his unique approach to the game. Joe was known to be a bit of a “chaser” - an inside straight or bottom pair was always good enough for him to stay in the pot (and too often , beat me out of it!). His quick wit and sense of humor soon won me over and I was able to (mostly) forgive him for all those bad beats. We had many great battles over the years. I especially admired him for his attitude regarding his health issues. He went through a lot but I always observed an upbeat, positive approach to life.
With his style of play, Joe was often either first out of the poker tournament or at the final table. I think in this final game of life we could say he “made the final table” - you’re a winner Joe, the poker bunch here in Yuma still talk about you, we’re going to miss you.

Death can never take a good man away, for in the hearts of the people he inspired, the legacy remains and continues throughout generations. Although life is clouded now because of the loss of Joe, we pray the love for the lost is forever carried in your memory. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched in this life.
I offer my condolences to his family and all that loved him.

It was a pleasure having Joe in our family for so many years. Joe and my Aunt Doris were the cutest couple and we shared so many loving memories with them. He always made us laugh and was the best host for us visiting at any time. I'm glad he is at peace and no longer in pain. I know he suffered and gave the most courageous fight to win over his health issues. Such a brave soul and an inspiration to us all. We all will truly miss you. My heart is broken for the ones left behind. Please know we are here for you with love.

Joe was an amazing husband to my auntie, uncle, father/stepfather, friend, and all-around good guy. Things won’t be the same here without his persona, insight, intellect, and great sense of humor. He brought so much to the table, in a very humble and unassuming way. I have a feeling that he’s going to be our angel watching over us, so we all better shape up and not disappoint this amazing fellow!

Joe rode his bicycle into our lives on a sunny Yuma day, and we were forever changed by his hilarious humor, his smile that lit up any gloomy situation, and his endearing tenacity that taught Rick and I to never give up. We adore you Joe- always have and always will. Thank you for being such an incredible friend and for bringing so much laughter and light -heartedness into our lives and into our souls. We will love you forever-
Sharon and Rick Patrick
