Obituary of Daniel Frank Meyers
Daniel Meyers passed away suddenly from natural causes on February 23. Dan and his wife Cheryl had recently moved from Olympia to Vancouver to be close to family, especially their new granddaughter.
Dan was born in Denver, CO in September 1951, the only child of Thomas and Betty Meyers. He graduated from Colorado State University and worked many years at GTE Northwest and Verizon in Everett, WA.
A talented craftsman, Dan chose to leave his corporate job to pursue his love of woodworking. Following a move from Kirkland to Olympia in 2004, Dan reinvented himself as Meyers Woodworks. He was proud of the beautiful furniture and cabinetry he created and the unique kitchens and baths he built in many Olympia homes. He loved his craft and he loved working with his clients, many of them becoming friends in the process.
More important than what Dan did is who he was. He was a kind, caring man who didn’t hesitate to extend a helping hand, give an encouraging word, or share his expansive knowledge and talent. He was a man of his word who could always be counted on. He had the infamous Meyers sense of humor and an easy laugh (especially at his own expense), and didn’t hesitate to share his feelings. He appreciated hard work, doing things right, and artistic creativity. In recent years he had developed a love for exploring other countries and cultures and was always ready for the next adventure. And he loved his family beyond measure.
Dan and Cheryl met in Arizona and were married just 6 months later in October 1982. With the addition of son Brad and daughter Alicia, they built a wonderful life together. Dan couldn’t have been prouder of his kids, as anyone who talked to him for more than 5 minutes would discover.
Dan was taken from us far too soon. He still had beauty to create, problems to solve, a granddaughter to spoil, people to meet, and knowledge to share. This remarkable man will live on forever in the memories of Cheryl, his wife of 36 years, son Brad, daughter Alicia, granddaughter Amelie, and mother Betty.
A celebration of Dan’s life is planned for April 20. Memorial donations in Dan’s memory may be made to the Refugee Aid Project, raicestexas.org or to Heifer International, heifer.org. Please consider registering as an organ donor.
