RUBY E. SNOEY August 11, 1923 ~ May 17, 2015 Ruby Ethel Snoey, 91, of Camas, WA, passed away at home with family by her side, on May 17, 2015. She was born to Andrew and Marjorie Lorence and was raised on the family farm near Silverton, OR with her two older brothers. Ruby graduated from Yakima High School in 1941. She attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane, WA, graduating as an RN. In 1946, Ruby married WWII Army Air Corps veteran, Peter A. Snoey, and settled in Camas, WA. During her nursing career, Ruby worked at Memorial and St. Joseph Hospitals, as well as for Dr. Bird and Dr. McDougall. After returning to school, Ruby finished her career as a nurse in the intensive care unit at the new SW Washington Hospital. She also found time to act as a fundraiser extraordinaire in cajoling donations for the original construction of Southwest Washington Hospital in Vancouver, WA. Ruby was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church for over 60 years serving as an organist, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School. She was a lifetime member of the Camas/Washougal Soroptimist Club and volunteered as a nurse for many community groups and activities, including the Camas School District Outdoor School and local blood drives. In 1988, Ruby was honored as the Camas-Washougal Citizen of the Year. In retirement, Ruby and her husband made annual trips to Alaska and the Yukon, as well as the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. After 52 years of marriage, Ruby's husband passed away in 1998. She then joined her brothers spending winters in Mesa, AZ. Ruby is survived by her son, Pete and favorite daughter-in-law, Gosia; grandsons, Lucas and Daniel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Lorence; mother, Marjorie and step-father, Alex Pollock; husband, Pete Snoey; and two brothers and their spouses, Charles and Kathleen Lorence and Robert and Bernice Lorence. The family would like to thank Dr. David Hagen for his special care provided to Ruby. A memorial service will be held Sat., May 30, 2015 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 2350 Main St., Washougal, WA at 12:00 p.m., with a reception to follow in the fellowship room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Ruby's name to Camas-Washougal Meals On Wheels, 1681 C. St., Washougal, WA 98671, Soroptimist International Scholarship Fund, PO box 621, Camas, WA 98607, or the charity of your choice .
