Ila Mae Handley, age 83, passed away August 6, 2018 in Longview, WA. She was born May 25, 1935 in La Center, WA to Percy L. and Sadie Mae Smith. A lifetime resident of the Kelso/Longview area, Ila Mae was a loving and caring individual.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty years, Fred H. Handley, in 2012. Also, preceding her in death were her brother, Darold, and sister, Elsie.
Ila Mae and Fred were owner/operators of both Minit Mart 16 and Minit Mart 36, both in Longview for many years. She was an active member of The Abundant Life Church of the Nazarene in Kelso, serving on many committees, as a Sunday School teacher, and Bible Study Leader. With her church, she and Fred also participated in two missions to Africa to assist local church and village groups.
Her other interests included gardening, reading, travel and her family. She was a member of The Good Sam Club, Sneakers, The Friendship Force, and was active in her neighborhood Home Owners Association, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer. They also hosted several exchange students over the years.
Survivors include two sons-Terry (Mary) Handley of Kingman, AZ and Mitch Handley (Sue Melton) of Longview; three daughters-Vicky (Jim) Hellen of Vancouver, WA, Kim (Scott) Gabrielson of Longview, and Lori Hahn (Mary Brenner) of Springfield, OR. She is also survived by a sister, Doris, and a brother, Gene. There are ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
A private family inurnment will take place at Longview Memorial Park where she will be reunited with Fred. On Saturday, August 18th, a Memorial Service will be held at the Abundant Life Church of the Nazarene in Kelso at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Church Hall. The family has requested that donations be made in lla Mae's honor to Community Home Health Hospice at 1035 11th Avenue, Longview, WA 98632.
