Karen Marie (Borg-Breen) Scheels passed away at the age of 71 at her home in Vancouver, WA on July 19, 2018.
Karen was born in Webster, SD to Agnes (Bergee) and Pastor Erling Borg-Breen. As a pastor’s daughter, Karen lived in Cottonwood, MN and Shelly, MN during her formative years. She attended Concordia University in Moorhead, MN where she achieved her BS in Home Economics. She started her first teaching job in Henning, MN and moved to Tacoma, WA in 1968, where she taught at Stanley Elementary, Lincoln High School and Foss High School.
She met the love of her life, David, in 1969 and they married in June of 1971. They had three children — Heather, Heidi and Hans — and now have six grandchildren. Karen and David moved to Vancouver in 1987, and she finished her teaching career at Prairie High school.
Karen enjoyed the outdoors. She liked to fish, hike, sightsee and travel, read, cook, garden and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and is a former Lion.
Karen is survived by her husband David, children and siblings Margie Newman, Liz Peterson and Ed Borg-Breen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Karen’s memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday, August 5th at 3 p.m. Memorial gifts can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Safe Haven, the Cancer Society or an organization of your choice.
