Lois Dorothy Sommerfeld passed away peacefully in Vancouver, Washington at the age of 73. Lois was born on March 25, 1945 in Honeoye Falls, New York to Dorothy and Lewis Page. She graduated from Hope High School in Providence, RI in 1963, and married Alan Fitch Shaw in 1965, relocating to the Pacific Northwest area. Despite their eventual divorce they remained close life long friends. Lois married the love of her life, Delano Jack Sommerfeld, in 1986, and they remained married for 21 years until he passed away in 2006. They shared a love of animals,and rescued numerous dogs and cats, as well as homed several wolves on their 15 acres. Together, they started and ran A First Place Inc., an outpatient alcohol/drug treatment center, working as counselors and helping numerous individuals overcome alcohol and drug addictions. Lois continued herwork at First Place after the agency sold to new owners until 2017. Lois’ relationship with Jesus was very important to her, and she looked forward to meeting Jesus and being reunited with her beloved Jack.
Lois is survived by her children, daughter, Krystal-Kay Hawkins (Ron), sons Alan P. Shaw (Katherine), and Alden Shaw (Kimberly), daughters Jenny Marthaller (Alex), and Jennifer Sommerfeld (Jimmy).She is also survived by her beloved sister Janis Johnson, brother, Lewis Page, 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends, who are more like family.
Her family will remember her for her sense of humor, fierce love of family, strong faith, gentle fun loving spirit, and her likeness to Christ. “Lola” our show girl will also be remembered for spontaneously dancing, no matter the location or situation.
A celebration of her life, will be held at Crossroads Church in Vancouver, WA on July 13, at 2 pm, with a light reception to follow at the same location. The family invites you to wear purple to the service in honor of Lois.
