March 8, 1961 - March 18, 2018
Smith, Ronald W., 57, of Vancouver, WA., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1961 to Donald and Violet (Pushman) Smith, in Flint, MI. He worked as the State Engineer for the USDA-National Resource Conservation Service of Oregon. Previously he was an Area Engineer for the USDA-NRCS in Michigan.
He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1988. He was a licensed engineer in both the State of Oregon and the State of Michigan.
He had a passion for ice hockey. He played in a senior league and enjoyed every minute of ice time. He loved watching his teams: The Red Wings, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and MSU Spartans. He enjoyed the outdoors and all of his animal companions through the years.
In 2000, he married Mary Dugan who survives.
Also surviving are his parents, Donald and Violet Smith and his sisters: Deborah Smith, Rita (Mark) Bechtel, and Marlene Smith. His daughter Stephanie Smith, step-son Jonathan Carey, grandson Taylor Carey, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Donna Smith and his best friend Duane Stilwell.
Arrangements for cremation are being made by Cascadia Cremation. Memorial services to be arranged at a later date in Clio, MI, with burial in the West Vienna Cemetery.
