Obituary of John Frederick Pauley

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John F. Pauley, born in Yakima, WA October 21, 1936 to Beulah (Billie) and Norman Pauley. As a young child, they moved to Clark County WA where John lived the rest of his life. He passed away at Manor Care on April 14, 2015, a result of a massive stroke suffered December 2, 2014. John was truly blessed by God, who gave him a lovely tenor voice which he shared with so many at funerals, weddings, birthdays and for 47 years as the soloist of the First Church of Christ Scientists in Vancouver, WA. He had the voice of an angel and knew that it was his life blessing. I always called him my songbird. The first day I met John, I also met his mother Billie at a good friend's birthday party in Vancouver. He sang the Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria and I was smitten. I knew when I first met him that I was going to marry him. I found that very odd as I certainly was not looking to ever get married again. John was simple in some ways and very complex in others. He was a great dog trainer and really knew how to pick out the best dogs in a litter. We had several standard poodles and now have 2 miniature poodles. He was also a general contractor, an inventor and we worked long and hard on his Postalock and Vertaxis inventions. Thanks to all the folks who helped him out. He never realized his life-long dream of making a retirement future on either project but they kept him busy. He loved his backyard and his home. He was very proud of our place and was a home body. He loved cats as well and was always finding one that needed food and shelter. He was undoubtedly known as the "best neighbor". He took care of the elderly, the disabled and the down trodden. John fulfilled our promise to care for my mother Helen in her old age and it would not have happened were it not for him and his TLC. God bless his generous heart. He had life long friends who came to see him often and I thank them for that. John is survived by his loving wife, Sue of Vancouver, his sister Norma Kunnas of Monterey, CA, his son James of Battle Ground who came to see his Dad almost every day in the care facility, his daughter Jeanne of Trout Lake, his daughter Chrissy of Battle Ground, and his youngest son David. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hopefully, someone of them will inherit the gift of a lovely singing voice. John was cremated and will be honored at a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. Donations in his name can be made to the Southwest Washington Humane Society or the Meals on Wheels program for seniors. "I love you more" was our favorite phrase. John, I do love you more. Your wife, Sue
