Dorothy R. MacKay
May 15, 1930 - January 13, 2018
Dorothy was born on May 15, 1930 in Susanville, California to Dudley Freeland Haney and Della Eugene Curtis Haney. Her mother died 2 weeks after she was born. She lived with her Granny until she was ten years old in Chico, California. After that she lived with various relatives and friends. She graduated from Chico Senior High School in 1947.
In 1953 Dorothy married Malcolm MacKay in Reno Nevada. They made their first home in Las Plumas on the Feather River at Big Bend Powerhouse. Dorothy was a homemaker her entire career. They moved to Vancouver from Chico in 1978.
Dorothy is survived by her six children: David Burrell (Cheryl) in Florida, Bill MacKay (Teri) in Chico, Ellen Joslin(Bob) in Vancouver, Frances Eckhardt (Kim) of Vancouver, Robert MacKay in Viet Nam and Martha MacKay in Vancouver, her sister Rita Goodwin (Tom) of Marysville, CA and her brother Tom of Illinois. She has 20 grandchildren and 221/2 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy volunteered at the Vancouver Discovery Shoppe for the American Cancer Society the entire time the shop was open from 1984 -2016. She was a bowler, reader and avid gardener. She loved watching old movies with her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Malcolm, brother, Henry Haney, Sister, Pat Little, and grandson Zack MacKay.
There will be a memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8701 NE 119th St,
Tuesday, February 6, at 9:00 a.m.
