Obituary of Velva L Moore
Velva L Moore 101
Velva Lavonne Moore was born August 10, 1915 and passed away June 7, 2017.
Lavonne was preceded by her son Mickey Moore, her husband William Ray Moore, daughter Velva Jo Duncan, sons Ronnie Gene, Raphael Lloyd and Donald Ray Moore.
Lavonne was my grandma. She had a very long and amazing life leaving behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She migrated from Oklahoma to California with her family first settling in Hanford, California and then in Watsonville where they worked the fields and canneries, making a life with friends and family.
As far back as I can remember, Grandma always had stories. One that stuck with me was that she was a "Rosie the Riveter" in World War II. Grandma was always in the kitchen singing, canning and cooking. A staple in her house was buttermilk bisques, although I swear every time she made them she said "Oh no these are sinker" but they were the best bisques you'd ever taste. I also remember when we were young and Grandma wanted to gossip she'd spell everything in a sing song voice that worked uuntil my sister could spell. I don't remember Grandma having an easy life or a lot of anything but what I do remember is that she always seemed happy and you always felt loved except maybe when she made you go pick a switch.
In the early 70's she moved to Selma, Oregon with her husband Ray. Grandma lived there for many years after he passed. She then moved to Battle Ground, Washington to live with her youngest son, Donald Ray Moore. Her final home for the last 10 years before she passed was with Maggy Mann and her family. They are so loving and caring, treating Grandma as their own family.
Grandma will be missed but never forgotten. We have a lifetime of funny, loving memories and stories that will keep her in our hearts. She will be laid to rest near her son, Donald Ray, at Northwood Park Cemetery in Ridgefield, Washington. Graveside services will be Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 12:00 Noon.
