Uncle Nolan was such a character like a grumpy teddy bear who cared way more than he wanted you to realize.
My favorite memory of him, was while driving my new sister in law over 205 bridge. She had just moved here, and we were wedding shopping. She looks out the window and sees a man with a huge beard, the window of his truck was down and it was literally flapping out the window in the wind. She says "oh my gosh look at that guy." I couldn't contain my laughter and told her
"that's Uncle Nolan."
He was such an original, long before it was a trend to have an epic beard. He was a badass. The things he lived through, without wanting any recognition for his service.
I will never forget him, he was one of a kind, and he will be so missed!
