Richard (Dick) Bernards 1934 – 2020 “A Gentleman and a Scholar” Dick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He served others throughout his life as a U.S. Army veteran, faithful Christian, and long-time volunteer with organizations including the Lion’s Club, Clark County Fair, Master Gardeners, and many others. He was a gentle, wise and benevolent man, always concerned about the welfare of others. Dick retired as a beloved teacher at RHS. He delighted in sparking curiosity in his students through hands-on experiences, both locally and throughout the world. He had a keen intellect and was a life-long learner. Dick loved sports, especially football, as well as gardening, travel, birding, bowling, fishing, and all things outdoors. He lived a rich, fulfilling life. Dick will be forever remembered by family, friends, and students alike for his kindness, generosity, service, integrity, and love. He is survived by Marion, his wife of 56 years, daughters Paula Bernards and Laura (John) Peterson, granddaughters Alyssa and Annalise, Aunt Flossie, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. In support of his love for students, please direct any donations to the Ridgefield Lions Club Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 416, Ridgefield, WA 98642.
